A Bit Of Background Info
This was
billed as the first European Stargate Convention, and will be the first of many
if the guests have their way!
Appearing were Christopher Judge (Teal'C), Amanda Tapping (Carter) and Marshall
Teague, who has appeared in numerous shows and movies (he played the Captain
of the space shuttle Independence in Armageddon).
The entertainment at the convention pretty much consisted of guest talks/video
showings in the main hall, the dealer's room and photograph/autograph sessions
with parties on the Saturday and Sunday nights.
At The Start Of The Day...
Me and
my companion for the weekend, Will, arrived in reasonable time in the morning
to register, check in, and sample the activities of the day.
The only drawback when it came to getting there was the poor directions given
on the map for the hotel.
The hotel itself wasn't bad at all, although the bar was expensive, but aren't
they always?!
Although the restaurant was expensive, there was a McDonald's down the road,
which solved that little problem!
The first thing I had to do when I got there was to find the seventh symbol
-
OK, to head to the dealer's room to get the Stargate badge featuring the seventh
symbol to complete my uniform for the weekend!!
The dealer's room was fairly limited, but there were a few things of interest...
including the badge in question, which was pleasing!
The Guest Talks
![]() |
Appearing first
for the guest talks was Christopher Judge - sporting blond hair and a little
blond goatee! He also exhibited a knack for being consistently late, liking alcoholic beverages and being fond of the odd cigarette (or several!). That aside, he provided quite a few interesting Stargate stories, including his ongoing campaign for Teal'c to be allowed to have hair, and the distribution of a "fart-arandum", circulated after the Stargate control room had to be cleared when a (strangely nameless) cast member let one rip on set! |

Amanda
Tapping proved to be thoroughly entertaining too.
As she is originally from Rochford in Essex, she requested that someone tell her exactly what an Essex girl was... I think she got her answer in the end, as she quoted some statistics in favour of Essex residents! |

Marshall Teague
proved to be very entertaining, turning the tables on the usual format of
guest talks - by selecting people from the audience and asking them questions,
including why they went to conventions and what they liked best about them.
The guests were out in force at each others' talks, joining in and asking... interesting questions. |
As an example,
Amanda Tapping had a question for Christopher Judge: Who in the SG1 team would
he most like to see Teal'c have a relationship with?
Christopher replied: someone intelligent, good looking, with big blue eyes -
Daniel, of course!!
Other Activities
The autograph
sessions were handled in ticket order, which prevented too much of a queue,
and from what I saw went smoothly.
An extra photo session was arranged for the Sunday morning, as so many people
missed out on Saturday morning's session, something myself and William took
full advantage of!
Other items of interest were the showing of a version of the Stargate movie
with extra scenes, episodes from the TV show and a special version of Stargate
- featuring bunny rabbits and a little Stargate all of their own!!
There was also a display of artwork, all of which was a pleasure to look at
- as well as the fancy dress competition with a high standard of entries ranging
from, to mention just a few, Hathor, Klorel, and the Nox.
... And To Finish With...
All in
all, the convention was good entertainment (if quite expensive in terms of ticket
price!), with the guests talks being the main highlight.
The guests commented on how much they had enjoyed the event and how they wouldn't
mind coming back for another one... and on that note, there's another Stargate
convention organised by Wolf 359 coming up in November!!.
