Starfury Millennium

by Susan Griffiths

Starfury Millennium was memorable for a number of reasons - and not all of them were related to the convention itself! The adventure began before Steve, Gel and me got to the convention itself...
We set off early from the Dagenham area and made our way to the Heathrow Park hotel via London's "wonderful" underground service. We figured that it would be an easy task to find a bus that would take us close to the hotel and that at Heathrow airport, transport would not be too much of a problem...
However, when we got to the airport, we had the task of locating the right bus from the numerous busses that were arriving and leaving at a fast paced rate.

However, help seemed to be at hand!!
There were signs of staff near the main bus stop area, so we decided to take advantage of this.
"Where can we get the bus to the Heathrow Park Hotel?"
I asked. The guy I was talking to seemed to have borrowed his dialect from the Neanderthal age.
"You three... over there..." he said, almost unintelligibly. "Us three... Over where?" we wondered. It turned out that the bus we wanted was the U3, leaving from a bay a fair way from where we were standing. Having found the right bus, we then had to find the hotel - which we managed by following landmarks, looking for street names and hoping for the best - but in the end, we made it!The rest of the weekend saw us trying to get up early, in order to catch an early bus, and catching up with sleep on the train. However, sleep never ranks highly when conventions are concerned!

We arrived in good time to register and ended up getting more than we'd bargained for.
After our journey, we were in need of a sit down, and must have chosen the place with the best view.
Robert Leeshock walked past first, Wortham Krimmer followed shortly after, then it was the turn of Richard Chevallou...Later on that evening, we were able to see them again, as all the guests made an appearance on stage to welcome everyone to the convention.

The guest talks were a good laugh - particularly when the guests were asked what colour pants they were wearing!
Another high point was the highly acclaimed bedroom scene between Londo and G'Kar, featuring the latter undergoing some mind boggling changes... Peter Jurasik and Andreas Katsulas gave a hilarious performance, which was worth the ticket price in itself!
The Earth: Final Conflict guests were brilliant on stage.

Wortham Krimmer had a request to make, which went something like
"Everyone calls me Wortham... I really hate that... so, everyone - call me Bob."The audience had no hesitation in complying with his wish! Another event of note at the convention was the Centauri Party laid on by Couro Prido.
I made sure I had my Centauri costume ready and waiting for that event - as requested - and it was well received.
The Centauri party was pretty good. Lots of lovely hot Jala, chilling out and chatting to people... it was definitely worth a visit!

The autograph session was worth waiting for in terms of the entertainment provided. Von Flores had a major announcement to make - his luggage - lost courtesy of the airline he was travelling with - had finally turned up! Another bonus was that I got to chat to Robert Leeshock, who admitted that he had been nervous about taking part in the event, as it was his first convention...but that he'd had a really good time.

My one regret was that Steve, Gel and me couldn't stay for the evening events, but with the distance we had to travel on the tube ( and the fact that we were saving a fortune in hotel bills) we couldn't have everything. All in all, it turned out to be an entertaining weekend... although it was hard explaining why I was so tired when I turned up at University, and why I'd forgotten to do any preparation for lectures that day!
